Editorial Review for Brookfield Zoo – by Citysearch Staff

Facts
If it seems like you stumble upon some of the animals, it's because Brookfield Zoo does such a great job re-creating natural habitats. Two million people each year visit the zoo, which opened in 1934. For families and teachers, colorful information displays are a fun way to learn about the need to protect wildlife, and friendly volunteers and staff members answer questions knowledgeably.

Features
Monkeys, orangutans and gorillas live in Tropic World, an enclosed rainforest the size of a football field. The Swamp houses snapping turtles, water snakes and siren salamanders basking on branches and leaf-covered banks. Snakes, alligators, spiders and bugs creep around in the Reptile House, and endangered Siberian tigers and snow leopards roam the Fragile Kingdom exhibit. Atlantic bottlenose dolphins show off their skills at Seven Seas and polar bears, brown bears and spectacled bears laze in the Bear Grottoes.

User Reviews for Brookfield Zoo

1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

After an hour and a half, my wife and I left to zoo. There were so many screaming and out of control children there that after a while, we wondered if the real animals were behind the fences or in front of them. Bathrooms were gross, trash all over walking trails, too many exhibits closed and thousands (no, I'm not kidding) of screaming children everywhere and parents not giving a damn. This is not a zoo, its an amusement park for unruly children and their uncaring parents.

Pros: Access to I-55

Cons: Pretty much everything else

A good place to spend the day! Take the time to meet with animals you don't normally see. Watch out for those gorilla's, they have good aim.

Pros: entertaining
